Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a painful condition that normally affects the hands or feet after injury or surgery.
The affected area often shows marked colour changes during the early stages, often being bright red. As the condition progresses there is frequently muscle atrophy and other changes associated with disuse, such as osteopenia, which is weakness of the underlying bones.
CRPS requires complex treatment from a number of disciplines and good results can often be achieved with early aggressive treatment, combining physical therapy with the treatments for neuropathic pain.
